Hi! I’m Ash, the owner of Holmes Haus Photography. When I graduated with my Business of Art & Design degree in 2015, I tried many different avenues of creating - but photography was the one that stuck. I tried working in a big-name portrait studio, but the corporate structure and lack of creativity made me hate what I was doing. It wasn’t until 2016, when my dad passed away that I realized what I had to do - I had to create on my own terms. Life is too short to waste time at a job you hate, and that’s how my adventure began.
In 2017, I decided to move to Massachusetts, where I had support from creative friends. I was inspired by New England’s nature, history, and folklore, and felt constantly compelled to create by local artists that I really admired. I spent 2017-2019 traveling, and when I returned, I realized a spark and confidence that wasn’t there before. I established my business in 2018 after strong encouragement from viewers of my art, and in 2019, took a job photographing goth & alternative clothes at a small boutique in Salem. In January of 2022, I was let go with no notice, but rather than letting it bring me down, I took it as a sign to focus on my own work and creative vision.
In the time I’ve been self-employed, I’ve been working on a dream of mine ― having my own studio here in Salem. I hope to attract lovers of the macabre, those who see beauty in darkness ― the weirdos, the outcasts, and offer a welcoming, inclusive space where their individuality can be documented in a positive and supportive way. Join me by sending me a contact form or e-mailing me at info@holmeshausphoto.com. I look forward to collaborating soon!
