  • Hi! I’m Ash, the owner of Holmes Haus Photography. When I graduated with my Business of Art & Design degree in 2015, I tried many different avenues of creating - but photography was the one that stuck. I tried working in a big-name portrait studio, but the corporate structure and lack of creativity made me hate what I was doing. It wasn’t until 2016, when my dad passed away that I realized what I had to do - I had to create on my own terms. Life is too short to waste time at a job you hate, and that’s how my adventure began.

In 2017, I decided to move to Massachusetts, where I had support from creative friends. I was inspired by New England’s nature, history, and folklore, and felt constantly compelled to create by local artists that I really admired. I spent 2017-2019 traveling, and when I returned, I realized a spark and confidence that wasn’t there before. I established my business in 2018 after strong encouragement from viewers of my art, and in 2019, took a job photographing goth & alternative clothes at a small boutique in Salem. In January of 2022, I was let go with no notice, but rather than letting it bring me down, I took it as a sign to focus on my own work and creative vision.

In the time I’ve been self-employed, I’ve been working on a dream of mine ― having my own studio here in Salem. I hope to attract lovers of the macabre, those who see beauty in darkness ― the weirdos, the outcasts, and offer a welcoming, inclusive space where their individuality can be documented in a positive and supportive way. Join me by sending me a contact form or e-mailing me at info@holmeshausphoto.com. I look forward to collaborating soon!

SONY a7r II, Cyber-Shot RX0 II, ZV-1 cameras; HEX Back Loader DSLR Backpack; Three Legged Thing BRIAN tripod system; SONY FE 24-240mm lens, ZEISS Loxia 50mm lens; 24-inch iMac w/Retina display (2022) — check back soon for film and alternative process materials!

How long have you been a photographer?

That’s a complicated question! I fell in love with photography around 2009, when I took my first photography course, but didn’t think about pursuing it professionally until 2016. In 2018, I started my own business and have been creating ever since!

    Where are you located?

My studio is located in Salem, MA, though I travel quite often. If you have any questions about traveling for a shoot, please reach out using my contact form.

What products and services do you offer?

I like to keep my art accessible and affordable, so I offer open-edition prints, stickers, pins, patches, buttons, phone grips, and miscellaneous home/office decor. I also accept commissions for product and portrait photography. Check out the services tab at the top of the page to learn more!

What music do you play to keep you motivated?

This isn’t an exhaustive list of music that inspires me, but this is the playlist I listen to while brainstorming and editing! Check it out on Spotify here. (Scroll down for the embedded playlist).

  • How do I book a session?

All of the information on pricing and shoot details can be found on my services page. Once you’re ready to reach out, you can shoot me an e-mail at info@holmeshausphoto.com, or fill out a contact form here. I look forward to hearing from you!

How soon can I expect my images?

Typical processing time for mini shoots and solo sessions is two weeks, but can take as long as three to four weeks. Event and large party shoots can take up to four weeks to edit.

How will my images be delivered?

You will receive a link to download an online gallery two to four weeks after the shoot (see above for image processing times).

Do you allow clients access to RAW images?

I unfortunately cannot provide any unedited images from your session. Part of the experience is coming away with photos that are tailored to fit your specific vision.

How can I use my photos?

With any Holmes Haus Photography shoot, you have unlimited printing rights and may use your images in any personal, non-commercial capacity. Holmes Haus Photo owns copyright to any and all images created together, and therefore cannot be printed for the purpose of making money. Your images may be used for marketing and social media purposes, but will never include personal information without your express written permission.

What if I have to cancel?

Payments are unfortunately nonrefundable, but reservations are honored up to 12 months from the original session date, should you wish to rebook. If unpredictable weather occurs the day of your shoot, there is the option to shoot indoors at my studio, or to find another date on location.
