Hi! I’m Ash, the owner of Holmes Haus Photography. When I graduated with my Business of Art & Design degree in 2015, I tried many different avenues of creating - but photography was the one that stuck. I tried working in a big-name portrait studio, but the corporate structure and lack of creativity made me hate what I was doing. It wasn’t until 2016, when my dad passed away that I realized what I had to do - I had to create on my own terms. Life is too short to waste time at a job you hate, and that’s how my adventure began.
In 2017, I decided to move to Massachusetts, where I had support from creative friends. I was inspired by New England’s nature, history, and folklore, and felt constantly compelled to create by local artists that I really admired. I spent 2017-2019 traveling, and when I returned, I realized a spark and confidence that wasn’t there before. I established my business in 2018 after strong encouragement from viewers of my art, and in 2019, took a job photographing goth & alternative clothes at a small boutique in Salem. In January of 2022, I was let go with no notice, but rather than letting it bring me down, I took it as a sign to focus on my own work and creative vision.
In the time I’ve been self-employed, I’ve been working on a dream of mine ― having my own studio here in Salem. I hope to attract lovers of the macabre, those who see beauty in darkness ― the weirdos, the outcasts, and offer a welcoming, inclusive space where their individuality can be documented in a positive and supportive way. Join me by sending me a contact form or e-mailing me at info@holmeshausphoto.com. I look forward to collaborating soon!

How long have you been a photographer?
That’s a complicated question! I fell in love with photography around 2009, when I took my first photography course, but didn’t think about pursuing it professionally until 2016. In 2018, I started my own business and have been creating ever since!
Where are you located?
My studio is located in Salem, MA, though I travel quite often. If you have any questions about traveling for a shoot, please reach out using my contact form.
What products and services do you offer?
I like to keep my art accessible and affordable, so I offer open-edition prints, stickers, pins, patches, buttons, phone grips, and miscellaneous home/office decor. I also accept commissions for product and portrait photography. Check out the services tab at the top of the page to learn more!
What music do you play to keep you motivated?
This isn’t an exhaustive list of music that inspires me, but this is the playlist I listen to while brainstorming and editing! Check it out on Spotify here. (Scroll down for the embedded playlist).
